KITE, YOU HAVE THIS ONE COMING ON.
Looking around for voices is probably like, one of those self-indulgent things that authors are not supposed to do but do anyway (because it’s fun, and gives a kind of real life affirmation, seeking for arbitrary signs. OH THAT SOUNDS LIKE ONE OF MY CHARACTERS. THIS STORY IS DESTINED TO WORK OUT AFTER ALL. BLESS THE SECRET POWER OF THE UNIVERSE.) It’s indulgent for me too, but it helps a lot trying to form a specific ‘voice’ or mend the speaking style of my characters. It’s easier to ‘hear them speak’ and your role in the development of the story is not as a co-ercer of words, someone who tries to force the words out of somebody non-existent, but an amanuensis to their thoughts and personality.
This is a satisfactory length of an irrelevant paragraph, so after the cut, my characters!
